The estate of Lydiard Tregoze did not exist in splendid isolation, it was surrounded by other estates and their owners. Over the centuries these families came and went. The St.Johns are unusual in the continuity of their ownership, which extended over 500 years.
In this collection we will look at their neighbours, the county gentry, some of whom are also remembered in the parish church.
Were they impressed by the St.Johns up at the Park? They were certainly meant to be; it was something the St.Johns worked at through the visual display in the church and in the house and park. There could have been no doubting their influence upon local society but what did their neighbours really think?
