29 Gay Street (gray painted door), the birthplace of Vernon Henry St.John (1896 - 1974), remains a fashionable Georgian road linking Queens Square with The Circus.

The street was designed by John Wood the Elder in 1735 and completed by his son John Wood the Younger in 1750. No 29 is on the East side of the road which was the first side to be built.

Henry St.John 5h Viscount Bolingbroke and Mary Emily Elizabeth (Howard) lived here using the pseudonyms of Mr and Mrs Wilson to disguise their affair, later marrying in secret in 1893.
