Hidden Content, Images, Videos and Documents
'A catalogue of the valuable collection of Italian and Dutch pictures : the property of the late Viscount Bolingbroke, with a selection from the gallery of the the Baron D'Ammon at the Hague ... and many distinguished Dutch and Flemish masters'
This auction was held in Mr Stanley's rooms in Old Bond Street, London, on 18th May 1826. The sums reached for Bolingbroke's paintings no doubt came in handy for the relatively cash strapped St.John's. Following the death in 1824 of George Richard St.John, 3rd Viscount Bolingbroke, much of the St.John family's most valuable furnishings and pictures were sold and Lydiard House let to tenants.
