Three trays of butterflies collected by Vernon St.John, 6th Viscount Bolingbroke. Part of a larger collection that was presented to the Museum of Wales after Lord Bolingbroke's death in 1974.
Vernon was a keen and respected entomologist and a knowledgeable naturalist, contributing articles to the Shell Guide for Wiltshire and other journals. He began observing and collecting butterflies while living in his family's ancestral home at Lydiard Park, entering into a regular correspondence with the eminent Lepidopterist FW Frowhawk, whose daughter he later married.
