Certificate for a place of Religious Worship in Hook, Lydiard Tregoze, 1822

A certificate drawn up by Primitive Methodist Church Minister Joseph Estourt and others for the attention of (probably) the Bishop of Salisbury, informing him of their intention to set up a place of religious worship in the home of John Ferris of Hook, Lydiard Tregoze. The signatories request that the property is registered as such in his lordship's Consistory Court.
Registration using a certificate of this nature was compulsory for any religious assemblies at which 'there shall be present more than twenty persons beside the immediate family and servants of the person in whose house or upon whose premises', the assembly was held.
