Hidden Content, Images, Videos and Documents
Small framed watercolour of George Richard St.John (1761-1824 ) 3rd Viscount Bolingbroke, as a young man in a cravat and grey jacket with powdered hair.
George was the eldest son of Frederick 2nd St.John, 2nd Viscount Bolingbroke and Lady Diana (Spencer), becoming 3rd Viscount Bolingbroke on the death of his father in 1787.
George's parents unhappy marriage and notorious divorce shocked society in the 1760's but barely held a candle to his own more scandalous affairs.
It is not known who the portrait was painted for, but despite being unframed, it was kept safely by the family for almost two hundred years.
