Photographs (12) of the wedding of Betty Hicks and Bryan Collett, 20th May 1948
Hidden Content, Images, Videos and Documents
A set of large professional photographs mounted on gold edged card which record the wedding of Betty Hicks of Lower Hook Farm and Wiltshire farmer Bryan Collett.
The service was taken by Revd. Willetts at St. Mary's Lydiard Tregoze. Betty chose three bridesmaids; her sister Deborah who was Maid of Honour and friends Marjorie and Betty Fry.
Unusually the reception was held in the main hall of Lydiard House, the only such occasion known to have taken place in the mansion during the 1940's. Betty's father Bill Hicks held the grazing rights for the lawn in front of Lydiard House and was familiar with the council's caretaker Harry Gough. Perhaps this is what led to such a special arrangement. Catering was provided by Mr and Mrs Franklin of Wootton Bassett.
