Medieval glass at St. Mary's Lydiard Tregoze: Virgin Mary
Hidden Content, Images, Videos and Documents
The most exquisite remnant in this window is in the upper left hand area and features the crowned head of the Virgin Mary as a young woman with golden hair. Coronets and other decorative features are visible on other fragments.
The glass has been attributed to John Thornton of Coventry, a leading stained glass artist whose major work was the great east window in York Minster.
The medieval glass in St .Mary's Lydiard Tregoze is badly in need of conservation cleaning to prevent deterioration. The Friends of Lydiard Park are assisting the church in fundraising to enable specialist glass conservators to undertake this work.
