Marble monument erected by Sir John St.John (d1648), 1st Bt; as a memorial to himself and his two wives; Anne (Leighton) (d.1628) and Margaret (Lady Grobham born Whitmore) (d.1637). Anne, who died in childbirth, is seen on Sir John's right holding her baby. The couple's surviving sons and daughters kneel at their parents' head and feet respectively. The children who did not survive infancy are represented around the base of the monument. One of the little girls, Anne St.John, grew up to marry (1) Henry Lee of Ditchley Park; and (2) Henry Wilmot, Earl of Rochester. See her letters, will, and portrait in The Lydiard Archives.
