One of several newspaper articles relating to the 21st birthday celebrations of Vernon St. John, 6th Viscount Bolingbroke in March 1917. This piece of Lydiard Tregoze Parish news records how much members of the local committee raised to purchase a silver rose bowl for the young lord. The account was submitted by their Treasurer Owen Hale (of Creeches Farm).

Their total expenditure was £76 5 shillings which members of the committee raised largely from Lord Bolingbroke's tenants. The rose bowl, which was purchased form Messrs. Deacon & Son of Wood Street, Swindon, cost a princely sum of £73 - the equivalent of over £6.000 in todays money (2024).
