Note of sale - St.John miniatures, 1991

A curatorial note recording the purchase of five St.John miniatures at Sotheby's on 28th February 1991.

The miniatures belonged to a group of seven family miniatures which were offered for sale by Kenneth, 7th Viscount Bolingbroke. They were framed together but split up by Sotheby's for the purposes of the sale. Lydiard House were not able to acquire all seven but were fortunate to secure five with the assistance of a Museums and Galleries Commission V&A Purchase Fund Grant. Two miniatures of Isabella, daughter of 4th Viscountess Bolingbroke, sold elsewhere.
