Harry and Phyllis Gough with their daughter Joyce (Vincent), her son Stephen and their dog Patch, in the grounds of Lydiard Park.

Harry Gough, a Verger at St. Mary's Lydiard Tregoze, had been recruited by Swindon Corporation in 1944 to become the first caretaker of Lydiard House. This followed a break-in by American servicemen from the station hospital camp in the park. The Corporation felt it was no longer feasible to leave the House unoccupied.
