Photograph of nave, St.Mary's Lydiard Tregoze, with Royal Arms mounted above the chancel arch, 1896
Hidden Content, Images, Videos and Documents
Rare view of the nave looking east towards the chancel. The photograph pre-dates the restoration works to the church undertaken in 1901 and shows the Royal Coat of Arms mounted above the chancel arch rather than surmounting the screen below as seen today. The plaster on the barrel-vaulted ceiling is also still intact.
The arms were moved to bridge the screen as part of the restoration works which included exposing the fifteenth-century wall painting which had lain covered up behind them.
