Nineteenth-century view of the church school on Hook Street. Children from Hook (Lydiard Tregoze), Greatfield (Lydiard Millicent) and Greenhill (Lydiard Millicent & Purton) attended the school.
The school was the largest public building in the neighbourhood, prior to the building of the parish hall at the top of Hook Street in the 1950's. It was the venue for local entertainment, celebrations and national occasions. During World War II there was even a concert performed by German Prisoners of War from the nearby camp in Lydiard Park.
