In December 2003 Sir Neil Cossons, Chairman of English Heritage and Councillor Derek Benfield, Mayor of Swindon, hosted a party at Lydiard Park to celebrate its sixty years in public ownership and champion The Lydiard Park Project which sought to restore the 260 acre historic landscape.

The event was attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Sir Maurice Johnson and Lady Johnson; Gilly Drummond, English Heritage Commissioner; Denys Hodson C.B.E; Mike Bowden, Board Director RWE Npower; members of the Friends of Lydiard Tregoze and guests from across the heritage sector.

The Ministry of Works (precursor to English Heritage) assisted and encouraged the post-war restoration of Lydiard House and were strong backers of the emerging landscape project in 2003.
