Photographs (4) of eighteenth-century reredos conserved, St. Mary's Lydiard Tregoze, 2015
Hidden Content, Images, Videos and Documents
The eighteenth-century reredos is shown here immediately following conservation by Jane Rutherfoord in 2014/2015. The painting was subsequently remounted beneath the East Window of the church.
Very little work was done to the fabric of the church in the eighteenth century as the St.John family turned their attention to the manor house. Installed in about 1725, the new reredos was a modest and sober introduction compared with the embellishments of previous centuries. The two central panels feature features the Commandments and the Creed with the figures of Moses and Aaron on either side.
Clumsily overpainted in the nineteenth century and in a poor state of repair, the reredos was conserved by Jane Rutherfoord Associates.
