Sketchbook belonging to Antonia St.John, 1844
Hidden Content, Images, Videos and Documents
A miniature sketchbook owned by Antonia St.John (1832- 1903) which contains pen and ink and watercolour sketches of scenes in Germany, Switzerland and France during a European railroad tour.
The sketchbook has been attributed to Antonia who would have been 12 years old in the summer of 1844 and it has been suggested it was made by her mother, Lady Isabella (Fitzroy) St.John. To corroborate this, there is a similar sketchbook in the Fitzroy papers at the Suffolk archives, full of drawings done by Lady Isabella at an earlier stage of her life.
