Traditional Interiors Magazine, extracts on Lydiard Park by Dorothy Bosomworth, 1986
Hidden Content, Images, Videos and Documents
The St.John Saga and Dorothy Bosomworth's accompanying article, Regency Romanticism, form an important reference point for understanding the refurbishments which took place in the State Rooms of Lydiard House in the 1980's.
In St.John Saga Bosomworth discusses the history, architecture and furnishings at Lydiard and the role of the late Walford (Wally) Wyn-Jones, the council's historical consultant at Lydiard Park. Under his direction decorative schemes were devised based on his historical knowledge and detailed research into an inventory of the house contents in 1824. This article is the only known source of information on the soft furnishings, paint schemes and wallpaper (including the names of manufacturers) which Swindon Council introduced in the 1980's.
In Regency Romanticism Bosomworth discusses the philosophy of restoration and includes references to items of Lydiard furniture which had yet to be traced including a pair of missing console tables attributed to William Vardy.
Dorothy Bosomworth is author of The Victorian Catalogue of House Goods (1992).
The dates and other writing on these cuttings were made by Lydiard painter and decorator Roy Webb.
