The finely carved Jacobean pulpit was originally a two-decker with a sounding-board above it and it stood against the north wall of the nave, facing the St. John family pew. It was possibly erected by Sir John St. John 1st Bart. (d.1648).

In the 19th Century it was moved to its current position facing the congregation.

A wooden model by the itinerant model maker Thomas Lloyd in around 1840 shows the original position of the pulpit.
