Photograph of the social club, Lydiard camp, 1950's

The photograph shows the social club on the 1950's estate at Lydiard Park with camp resident Roland Gough serving behind the bar . The residents decorated the vacant Nissen hut themselves and a drinks licence was granted by Swindon Corporation in 1952.

For most of the decade the club was run by Harold and Gladys Cheesley. It provided a venue for music, singalongs and dances as well as doubling up as a youth centre.
