Polyptych watercolour by 4th Viscount Bolingbroke

Part of an unfinished watercolour of the painted St.John family Polyptych in St. Mary's Lydiard Tregoze by amateur artist, Henry 4th Viscount Bolingbroke.
The watercolour returned to Lydiard Park as part of the 6th Viscount Bolingbroke's bequest and this section was framed to allow the work to be displayed to the public.
Henry must have spent many hours undertaking such a meticulous copy of the central panel of the great family memorial. This section features Sir John St.John, 1st Baronet, and his wife Anne Leighton. In the bottom left had corner a shield emblazoned with family heraldry is carefully recorded. It is not altogether surprising Henry didn't complete the entire picture!
