This textbook on anatomy was owned by Werner Wachsmuth (1900-1990), the senior German doctor at 160 POW Camp Hospital, Lydiard Park.
It is inscribed: Property of:/ OBERST Prof.. Dr WACHSMUTH/ POW No A (?) 428915 and bears the camp's official stamp.
After the war Dr Wachsmuth became a leading authority on anatomy and in 1935, he co-founded Practical Anatomy which provided anatomically accurate representations for the practicing surgeon. The work appeared in several volumes until the 1990s.
