Clearly a man who knew his horses, N W Brockwell writes to the Editor of the Times to correct what he sees as excessive claims made about the career of the famous 18th Century racehorse Gimcrack.

He is responding to he write up he read in a Grafton Street brochure promoting the sale of two equestrian paintings by George Stubbs, which had previously been sold by Lord Bolingbroke in 1943.
