The Painter family occupied Brook Cottage which still stands today, close to the entrance to Lydiard Park from the church side. The cottage, actually a substantial house, can be seen from the dam wall inside the park.

John Painter became Gamekeeper at Lydiard in 1891. His sons, Ernest and Stanley both fought in World War I. Ernest can be seen on the far right wearing a hat.
