The Stone in the Attics

The article concerns the date of the remodelling of Lydiard House which is recorded on a stone tablet in the attic of Lydiard House as 1743. The author challenges the opinion of Christopher Hussey (Country Life Magazine - March & April 1948), who suggested that the stone marked the beginning of the remodelling or some point during the building work.
