Hidden Content, Images, Videos and Documents
Group photograph of British officers and men stationed at 160 POW Camp, Lydiard Park, in the 1940's. It is possible that the photograph commemorates the closure of the camp in 1948 when the last German soldiers were repatriated,/ and or an inspection from Command or District HQ.
The uniforms are British khaki battledress. The visible shoulder badges show the group are all in the same Amy Command or District at the time of the photograph, but the minor variations in uniform and variety of cap badges may indicate a varied range of original regiment or corps.
Camp huts are visible in the background and the post and wire fence which surrounded the site. The photograph is one of twenty images of the camp and military activity at Lydiard Park, taken by local photographer, Albert Beaney during World War II.
