Trinity Church, New York City, USA, 1827

In this church on 1st August 1804, George Richard St.John, 3rd Viscount Bolingbroke married his mistress, Isabella Charlotte Antoinette Sophia Baronin von Hompesch (c1772-1848). The marriage was prompted by the death of the viscount's estranged wife, Charlotte Collins.

In 1804the Manhattan church was in its second phase of construction (1790-1839) and was notable as President Washington and members of his government had worshiped there. The church you see on the site today is a third reconstruction dating from 1839.
