A brief article explaining a forthcoming exploration of the St.John family vault in St. Mary's Lydiard Tregoze in connection with The Martin's Hundred Project. The Project, headed by archaeologist Dr I Noel Hume of The Williamsburg Foundation in America and supported by The Victoria and Albert Museum in the UK, was examining evidence associated with the massacre of over fifty English colonists by indigenous Indians at Martin's Hundred in 1622.

It was hoped that the unusual Gable-Lidded coffins depicted on the St. John Polyptych and which corresponded with examples found at Martins Hundred, might remain within the family vault. At the time of writing in 1984, it was a case of wait and see. As subsequent articles and photographs show (see Items of Interest below), none were discovered.
